CINEFELT
Music Must Be FELT
Music Must Be FELT
A cinematic felt & LoFi audio effect that turns any piano or instrument into warm, intimate, nostalgic character in seconds — without a complex plugin chain.
You know that moment when an idea hits… but your piano just sounds flat. Too clean, too sharp or just too much like everyone else’s soft piano preset. Within minutes you’re scrolling through patches, stacking plugins, tweaking filters and the creative spark you had is gone. You don’t want more and more tools to keep track of and lose focus. Instead, you want to play a few notes and suddenly feel like you’re inside a scene.

CINEFELT is a cinematic felt & LoFi audio effect plugin that wraps your existing sounds - (soft) pianos, Rhodes, synth pads, guitars, even real piano recordings - in instant warmth, intimacy and character. Drop it on a track, turn the main knob, and your standard, “no personality” sound becomes an intimate performance that actually moves you and others, without needing mixing-engineer skills or a 5-plugin chain. • Instant felt vibe: Transform any piano or keys into a cinematic felt sound in seconds. • From harsh to emotional: Soften edges, add intimacy without killing transients and definition. • One instance, complete chain: filters, compression, transient shaping, saturation, noise, LoFi, reverb and more... all tuned for the cinematic felt aesthetic. • Use the instruments you already love; CINEFELT gives them a unique, personal character instead of replacing them. • Write more, tweak less: Open your DAW, load your usual piano + CINEFELT, and you’re in a writing mood before your inner critic even wakes up.

At the heart of CINEFELT is the big central Felt knob: your one-move shortcut from “pretty nice” to “this belongs in a film.” Under the hood, that single control blends a carefully tuned chain of: • tone shaping, • subtle compression, • transient sculpting, • saturation, and • dynamic noise, reacting to your input level. You get two base characters: • WARM – more vintage, textured and cozy. • CLEAN – minimal processing, for when you just want a gentle felt touch without extra color. Dial in just enough “felting” to support the song - from barely-there softness to fully muted late-night piano confessions.

Once the core felt tone is in place, the Effects section lets you decide where that sound lives - from dusty vinyl record and dim living room to wide cinematic hall or total destruction.

Sometimes you don’t want to build a sound from zero. You just want to pick a mood and start writing. CINEFELT ships with 50+ presets designed as creative starting points for: • intimate felt pianos & neoclassical beds, • LoFi keys and Rhodes-style tones, • ambient pads and soundscapes, • presets for guitars, strings and other “non-piano” sources. Most presets are built to be subtle but deep: the main knob is used musically, with small moves across multiple parameters adding up to a believable, inspiring result. There are also some more extreme presets for you to check out, though - it doesn't need to be tame. Browse quickly, save your own variations, and stay in flow instead of rebuilding the same chain in every session.

Cinefelt is one of those plugins that do something very specific - and when you want that specific sound, it gets you there in no time and without any fuss. At the same time, it offers enough controls to shape the sound exactly the way your mix needs it.

Put on headphones and flip between dry vs. CINEFELT examples. Same performance, same instrument - the only difference is what happens when the Felt knob and effects wake up.
I create emotional, piano-driven music that feels like a journey to inner peace. When I started composing as Pat George about a year ago, I kept reaching for that intimate “felt” tone, the kind of sound that makes a simple chord feel like a whole scene. So I did what everyone does: I tried the usual felt pianos, the free ones, the hyped ones, the expensive ones. And most of them either sounded the same as everyone else, were too muffled, or felt weirdly digital. The ones I really liked, like Noire, had so many dials and options that it slowed me down when all I wanted was to write. At some point I asked myself a simple but honest question: “What if there was a plugin that could turn any piano into a felt piano, with just one knob?” Out of that question, CINEFELT was born. It started as me tinkering: I wanted a simple, musical way to take the sounds I already loved and wrap them in warmth, intimacy and LoFi character - without building a whole plugin chain every time or getting lost in settings. The pun, “music must be FELT”, came naturally. That’s really the whole point: CINEFELT is a small tool to help you get from idea to emotion faster, so you spend less time tweaking and more time actually playing.

The work that was put into the creation of this plugin had to be extensive. It gives you warmth and energy for your track however you decide to use it. It is one of my favorite plugins for lofi track creations. Knocked it out of the park with this one!~

I have been studying Arvo Part's music for some time now and play the piano part in solo pieces and chamber pieces. Recording Spiegel im Spiegel for piano and cello, or piano with violin and cello, I have always found difficult to balance. Mixing the effects of an 1176 compressor with Cinefelt, on both the piano and the cello gives that ethereal bell like tone and balance that, I think, Part's compositions require and deserve. I use a Casio GP 500 with Studio Strings virtual instruments. Applying Cinefelt to the virtual Fortepianos available with the GP 500 helps a lot in taking off the "rough edges" that often appear, particularly in the treble. Thanks for making this available, Roger Whewell. PS. I think the 5th star will appear as I gain more experience with it in the fx chain!

Very good flexible plugin. You can make it as subtle or pronounced as you need.Worth checking out.

I used it... on a bass sound to soften the attack and make it more pillowy. Why not. It works well on piano too as intended. Not revolutionary but it has the controls you need to make a quick soft sound and, in this world overflowing with plug-ins, it's all I ask for.

Since I got this plugin, I mainly use it on piano or mallet instruments, where it fits perfectly. For me, it makes all the difference, adding a special touch of softness and warmth to the sound. It’s also great to have such a all-round effect chain in one plugin. The chorus and vibrato effects are among my favorites, especially in combination with the Bloom reverb, which is ideal for creating ambient soundscapes. The interface is very smart and intuitive. I like the explanations that appear when you select a control, showing how each parameter affects the sound. This plugin is now an essential part of my workflow.

Recently I wrote a song that's a bit dark and builds up from just a piano and vocals to full band. With Cinefelt I made the beginning and verses even darker, just turned that big knob and automated the rest. Excellent!

Resonance as a tonal sculptor is a spectral shaping — decades before the term became common. The resonator emphasized carefully chosen bands, creating vowel-like formants, animated timbres, and shimmering harmonic structures that felt almost acoustic.
